Last week we took a look at the 20 movies competing for a spot in the Oscar’s Best Animated Feature category and today the shortlist has been released for the Best Documentary Feature category. Of the original 89 films that qualified, only 15 have made the cut, which will be shortened down to five before the big night.

The topics of the documentaries range from the environment to sports to illegal immigration and everything in between, but as interesting as the shortlist is, the snubs are also causing some buzz around the blogosphere. Michael Moore’s CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY is absent, despite being the highest grossing documentary of 2009. The controversial director has been a regular part of the Best Documentary category for a few years now.

Other high-profile documentaries that didn’t make the cut include TYSON, IT MIGHT GET LOUD, and ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL. Did your favorite make the shortlist? Read on to find out!
