The official Oscar nominations are right around the corner, but in the meantime we have a few lists of the films being considered by the Academy. We already looked at the documentaries and animated shorts, and today we have the list of movies being considered for Best Visual Effects.

The list is full the of the usual suspects, such as AVATAR and WATCHMEN, but there are a couple surprises. From the previews I’ve seen, I’m surprised that SHERLOCK HOLMES is on the list. Don’t get me wrong, it looks like an awesome flick, but I didn’t realize it was so heavy on special effects. It’s also a bit surprising that they are considering A CHRISTMAS CAROL, since it’s all computer animated.

The exclusion of THE LOVELY BONES is not too shocking, since critics haven’t exactly been loving it. Of course, the only movie I care about is my little engine that could: DISTRICT 9, which remains my favorite of the year. What else made the list? Read on to find out.

I'd of liked to see Moon in there!
    • I'm with you on this. I really don't know why MOON has gotten the shaft on this and the Independent Spirit Awards. Such a great film!
