20 films compete for a spot in the Best Animated Feature category
Remember when we told you about the Best Picture category at the Oscars getting bumped up to 10 nominees? Well, the Best Animated Feature category is also going up in numbers, to 5 from the traditional 3, but this isn’t due to new rules.
Since the number of eligible films exceeded 16 this year (20 are being considered), the category will have five contenders, something we haven’t seen since 2002. Of course, more nominees doesn’t mean more quality films. For some reason I have a hard time believing that ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL will be up for an Oscar. Some of the other nominees are great, like FANTASTIC MR. FOX and MARY AND MAX, which I haven’t seen, but from the trailer it looks like a combination of HAROLD AND MAUDE and UP. I almost don’t want Pixar to win this year. Let’s give someone else a chance!
Check out the 20 films, along with their trailers, after the jump.
1.) ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL

4.) CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS

7.) THE DOLPHIN – STORY OF A DREAMER

9.) ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS

16.) THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

18.) TINKER BELL AND THE LOST TREASURE
