47 RONIN might have its director
According to Variety, Carl Erik Rinsch is close to a deal to become the man to direct Keanu Reeves in the samurai movie 47 RONIN. Yes, in case you did not know, Keanu Reeves is going to be in a samurai movie, and yes, I thought it was a little surprising when I first found out, too.
47 RONIN would be Rinsch’s feature directorial debut, as he is currently a successful commercial director. This is not the first time Rinsch has been considered for a feature film, however. Tony and Ridley Scott previously talked to Rinsch about directing the ALIEN prequel before Ridley decided he would direct the film after all.
47 RONIN is a “fact-based story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th Century Japan.” Of course, one of the swordsmen will be played by Reeves.
I wish I could offer more insight into this possible move, but since Rinsch has not made a feature film yet, it’s hard to know what to expect. But I do know that I hope the film doesn’t suck when it comes it, whether or not Rinsch ends up directing it. So, there is that (strong finish!).
