    50 Cent

I know I just made many of you shout “What?!” probably frightening your grandparents that are currently taking a nap on the couch this holiday break (I just scared my own grandpa, hopefully he’ll quit snoring long enough for me to finish this post). Your eyes do not deceive you, Curtis Jackson, better known as the rapper 50 Cent, is making a movie (not just starring in, but making). Jackson has already completed and sold the script for the film, which is currently titled THE GUN.

As expected, Jackson will be starring in the film that follows two drug-dealing street thugs and the complexities of the street hustle. I understand that that story description is quite broad, but news concerning this project is just now beginning to leak its way out. The talented actor, Val Kilmer, will be co-starring alongside Jackson as his drug-dealing buddy ol’ pal.

I personally kind of like this casting choice. I am one of the few people around that think Jackson has some serious Hollywood cross-over potential, and I am excited to see what can happen when he gets a low-budget and gritty opportunity to showcase what talent he has. Kilmer has had some shining moments in some lower budget R-rated films as well (KISS KISS BANG BANG) and I am hoping his veteran qualities will rub off on the film.

Production on THE GUN will begin next month. The project has a load of potential, but I can’t shake the feeling deep within me that this movie also has an equal to be a big, fat flop. Hopefully, as time progresses, more news on THE GUN will become available, and we will all be able to make better assumptions.
