A CHRISTMAS CAROL gets a trailer
I’ve seen the trailer for Robert Zemeckis’ take on the classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL story a few times in theaters – in a 3D atmosphere, it’s pretty engaging, but it’s yet to make me want to see the film when it hits theaters on November 6. The tale has been told countless times – from straight-up stick-to-the-story versions of the tale, to modern reimaginings (SCROOGED, the wretched GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST). This new version always strikes me as one thing and one thing only – unnecessary.
Certainly, the trailer footage looks good, using the digital capture/Imagemotion technology Zemeckis previously used in 2004′s THE POLAR EXPRESS. However, instead of making the film seem more emotional because it look so real, the whole thing comes up cold to me. I’m not emotionally attached at all. I even find myself wondering just why Zemeckis bothered with telling the story digitally in the first place. Take a look at the trailer in HD after the jump and, tell me, am I being too harsh on the film too early?
Are you excited for this new A CHRISTMAS CAROL? What is your favorite version of the classic Dickens story?
