    New Freddy Krueger tease

When the trailer for the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET premiered a few months back, we were left wondering just how gruesome the new Freddy Krueger would look. The trailer teased us with a few shadowy shots, but nothing really to confirm what I’d read about the redesign being much more realistic.

Now, Shock Till You Drop has for us our first good look at Jackie Earle Haley’s Krueger. The picture comes to us courtesy of a collectible figurine, so we still don’t know what it will look like on film, but it’s still exactly what I was expecting: disgusting and awesome.

It had never occurred to me until now that I’m seeing the new Freddy that the old one didn’t really look like a burn victim. At least not the ones you see The Discovery Channel. The fire eats away your defining features when you experience a tragedy like that and this new Freddy definitely captures that look. Personally, I dig how disturbing and realistic it is, but I’m sure people are gonna be divided. What do you guys think?

He looks like the disfigured (wheelchair bound) guy from Hanibal. Not that scary at all!

Even though I've been dreading this movie's treatment of the franchise, I actually prefer the new make-up if this is how it looks. When I was little, and found out how burnt people really looked, I was surprised to find out they looked nothing like Freddy. He looked more like a male witch, now that I think about it.

I'm about 70positive/30negative on this makeup design. Since this IS a reboot with a new production team and cast, of course they are going to have to introduce something new to go along with a story already seen before. The idea of showing us Freddy prior to being burned is a cool idea, and thus creating the makeup to look like an authentic burn victim makes sense here, as a person's defining features are gone after being burned that badly. So there's the 70 percent. The remaining 30 wonders why it's necessary to make an authentic burn look for a boogeyman who haunts you in your dreams (in your dreams reality is altered anyway)...
    • I think it's because that ups the scary element. If he just had his normal face, it wouldn't be as nearly terrifying.
