Angarano in talks for KNOCKOUT
A couple of days ago we told you that Channing Tatum was confirmed and Antonio Banderas was in talks to join the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s KNOCKOUT. The film has an all-star cast that already includes the likes of Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Dennis Quaid, and with production set to begin next month, they are still working on finalizing the cast. One more name has been thrown into the negotiations and this one may come as a bit of a surprise.
Michael Angarano, star of the disappointing GENTLEMEN BRONCOS, is in negotiations for a role in the spy thriller which stars American mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano. In the film, Carano works as an agent for a private security contractor (like Blackwater) and is betrayed by one of her teammates. Angarano would play a teenager who helps Carano out of a troublesome situation and unwittingly becomes her partner. It is rather unfortunate that, at 22 Angarano, is still being cast as a teen, but this role would give him a chance to step out of that cute, awkward, stammering virgin role that has been assigned to both Angarano and his contemporaries like Michael Cera and Jesse Eisenberg.
Personally, I would like to see more female actors added to the cast. And though the plot doesn’t have me too terribly interested in this film, I am interested to see where Soderbergh takes it.
Angarano recently wrapped production on Max Winkler’s romantic comedy CEREMONY with Uma Thurman.
