Another ROBIN HOOD film announced
Ridley Scott’s imagining of the classic story, starring Russell Crowe, isn’t even complete yet, but there’s already another ROBIN HOOD film on the way. This one will have a much different spin than Scott’s – it’s set for a “futuristic makeover,” brought to us by the producers of THE INTERNATIONAL (Richard Suckle) and THE DARK KNIGHT (Charles Roven). Their remake was pitched by Nicolai Fuglsig, a former commercial director who will also be making his feature directorial debut with the film. The script will be penned by Jason Hall (SPREAD).
Not much is known about the specifics of the project yet, but it will certainly not be the typical take on the Robin Hood tale. The film “will be set in a dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city’s embattled population.” I am guessing our Nottingham won’t be a leafy forest, and our bows and arrows won’t be made out of wood.
For my money, it doesn’t get much better than ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS for all my Nottingham Forest-based needs, but apparently I’m in the minority on this. The Robin Hood story has seen many incarnations on the screen, both big and small. The 1938 classic, starring Errol Flynn, is considered the definitive ROBIN HOOD. Disney had their own take on the be-tighted Prince of Thieves with their 1973 animated classic. Kevin Costner’s 1991 turn as Robin in ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES pulled in $225 million at the box office. And nearly every decade since the 1950s has come with its own television series take on the tale.
What do you think? Do you still thirst for more “rob from the rich, give to the poor” high jinks?
