THOR keeps on raking in the cast members. Among others, we already have Chris Hemsworth as the title character, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, his half-brother and nemesis, and Natalie Portman as the love interest. Now it looks like we’ll be adding Anthony Hopkins’ name to the list.

The veteran actor of stage and film is in negotiations to play Odin, Thor’s father and king of Asgard. Can you say, “awesome”?! No offense to Brian Blessed, who was previously rumored to be up for the part, but Hopkins just seems more kingly to me since he has such a commanding presence whenever he walks into a scene. His casting, though, has me thinking about the setting of the film.

This is probably me just reading too much into this, but director Kenneth Branagh, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston are all from Great Britain and Chris Hemsworth is Australian. It has me wondering if the movie is going to have some LORD OF THE RINGS-style accents. If not on Earth, then at least in Asgard. Again, this is just me speculating.

The script is being written by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller, but don’t expect the movie any time soon. Paramount has scheduled it for May 20, 2011.
