BLACK DYNAMITE was a hit on the festival circuit this year, premiering at Sundance and winning the audience award at the Seattle International Film Festival, as well as screening at a bunch of other festivals.  The film was picked up at Sundance by Sony, and a release later this year has always been the target. In a joint announcement, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group President Steve Bersch and Apparition’s Bob Berney announced that Apparition will release BLACK DYNAMITE in the U.S. on October 16, 2009.

BLACK DYNAMITE is Apparition's fourth title announced for release this year. The lineup includes Jane Campion’s BRIGHT STAR, Terrence Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE, with Brad Pitt, and The YOUNG VICTORIA, starring Emily Blunt.

Directed and co-written by Scott Sanders, the film stars Michael Jai White as Black Dynamite, a “gun-toting, nunchuck-wielding, ladies man willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.”  The cast also includes Tommy Davidson, Byron Minns, Arsenio Hall and Salli Richardson-Whitfield.
