ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT’s feature script is on its way
Back in 2005, one of the smartest shows of our generation was cut short due to lack of people watching. The DVD sales were high, but not high enough to give it another season. Ever since then, the fans of “Arrested Development” (which grow daily) have been begging for a feature film and we’ve been left on a see-saw on whether or not it will happen.
Back when James interviewed Jason Bateman for Mike Judge’s EXTRACT, Bateman told James, “it’s coming,” but no word when.
Today, we found out (via THR) that the script for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT: THE MOVIE (unofficial title) is in the works.
Mitchell Hurwitz (the show’s creator) and his co-executive produce James Vallely are working on a script for a full-length “Arrested Development” feature. According to THR, they are “spinning more bizarre encounters for the eccentric, spoiled Bluth clan for possible feature production in the spring.”
Good news, everybody, the WHOLE cast is on board. Hurwitz once stated that he wouldn’t start the script unless all the main actors signed on (Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi, and Jeffrey Tambor), and now he’s pushing forward with the script, along with Vallely. No word, though, if Ron Howard will return as the show’s narrator, but I’ll put my money on it that he does.
Hurwitz will direct, with Fox Searchlight and Imagine producing the film. No further details have been released.
