AVATAR featurette shows off the human hardware
When a new James Cameron movies comes out, it’s an event. The guy just gets what great filmmaking is all about, and a lot of it comes down to the details. I remember reading about his obsessive attention to detail on TITANIC, and it looks like that attention to detail goes for alien planets, too.
This new featurette talks about how Cameron wanted the technology, despite being over a century ahead of ours, to be realistic within the world of the movie. There is a rhyme and reason to everything from the AMP units, which basically turn the human body into a giant robot, to the bad-ass guns designed by Weta. The video also reveals a few more details about the movie, such as the fact that it takes nine years to reach Pandora, which you spend cryogenically frozen.
This attention to detail does come with a price tag. The movie’s budget is close to $500 million, not unlike TITANIC over a decade ago. Let’s just hope it pays off again.
