    Bad Robot Paramount.001

There are a lot of odd couplings in this world. For example, a peanut butter, mayonnaise, and cheese sandwich (which I occasionally eat, and enjoy). Hollywood loves to exploit the odd couples: Riggs and Murtaugh in LETHAL WEAPON, real life couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, and the odd couple in, well, THE ODD COUPLE. Two opposites thrown together is a classic recipe for conflict, comedy, and drama.

News has come out today that a new unlikely relationship has been forged between two extremely different screenwriters. The coupling I am referring to is Aline Brosh McKenna and Simon Kinberg.

Both McKenna and Kinberg have been successful at their specific writing niches. Aline Brosh McKenna's credits include THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, 27 DRESSES, and MORNING GLORY: all of the above could be filed under romantic comedy without too much struggle. Simon Kinberg's credits include MR. & MRS. SMITH, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, and the heavily anticipated SHERLOCK HOLMES. We can all probably agree that those films would all fall within the action genre (though they do contain other genre elements).

Despite their very diverse backgrounds, the two writers teamed up and came up with a whale of a film idea. They then took this idea to both Paramount and Bad Robot - the production company behind McKenna's MORNING GLORY. I am guessing that is the tie-in that got them involved on this one. Their pitches created home runs for both players, which in baseball would be bad for the pitcher. Yet, in Hollywood, the result of a home run is fantastic. So Paramount has jumped on board along with Bad Robot, one of the hottest new production companies out there right now, to bring the world this new project. So what is this movie pitch?

Well, we don't know. Both Universal and Bad Robot are refusing to let any details concerning this project slip yet, but it does have Bad Robot's head, the brilliant J.J. Abrams, more than excited.

"These two writers couldn't be more different. The genres they write seem almost diametrically opposed... But they came to Bad Robot with a pitch that got us salivating."

This would not be the first time Bad Robot and Paramount have worked together, as their previous mutual credits include STAR TREK, CLOVERFIELD, and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III. Based on that track record, I'd say whatever it is they have up their sleeve, it is something to look forward to finding out more about.
