  • BAYWATCH movie gets its writers

Two writers have come running up the beach in slow motion to join the planned BAYWATCH movie. Paramount has hired Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka to pen the script with a planned release sometime in 2011. The guys are relative newcomers but currently have THE SITTER set up at Fox, with David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) set to direct and Jonah Hill set to star.

Last July, Jeremy Garelick (co-writer of THE BREAK-UP) was hired to rewrite a draft of the script as well as direct the film. There is no word on Garelick's current involvement with the project.

I'm assuming that this move means that Paramount is attempting to go more comedic with the adaptation a la STARSKY & HUTCH, LAND OF THE LOST, BEWITCHED, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, etc.

But wasn't the original Baywatch funny enough on its own? No? The clip after the jump says otherwise!

Oh, why not? Here's the intro for old time's sake!
