Ben Stiller is the new Spielberg
Well, he’s not Spielberg yet, but it looks like he’s in the running. Earlier this year, Steven Spielberg’s THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 was all the buzz, but now that he has walked away from the project Dreamworks is looking for a replacement. That’s where Ben Stiller comes in. He is currently in talks to take over the famous director, but how would Stiller do on a project like this? The subject matter is grim, following the story of seven people who were put on trial after the 1968 Democratic Convention riots, and though Stiller is best known for his comedic roles, he has tackled the dramatic before in REALITY BITES, but even that was a decade ago. I’m not sure if his short dramatic resume is enough for the studio to give him some serious consideration, but hopefully all the positive feedback this story is receiving around the blogosphere will affect their decisions. That said, I’d like to now throw my hat into the ring in favor of Ben Stiller directing. After TROPIC THUNDER I left the theater convinced that his best work is still to come. So come on, Dreamworks, all we are saying is give Stiller a chance.
