Blake Lively cast in GREEN LANTERN
The film adaptation of DC Comics hero, GREEN LANTERN, under went a hefty amount of speculation as to who would be the titular Lantern, way back in July. After Ryan Reynolds was ultimately cast in the role, attention switched to who would play his love interest - Carol Ferris. There have been a whole mess of rumors - from Eva Green to Keri Russell, even Jennifer Garner (who has done her own comic book work in DAREDEVIL and ELEKTRA) and Diane Kruger. But it's a Gossip Girl who has won out - Blake Lively.
The Carol Ferris character is an interesting one, and not just because she gets to smooch Greenie himself. The daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris, Carol is the one who hires test pilot Hal Jordan (Green Lantern's human persona). However, Carol is eventually turned into the evil Star Sapphire, who is a nemesis of Green Lantern. Repeat after me - it's complicated. There's significantly more to their fraught relationship than that, but that covers the basics. She's no Mary Jane Watson, that's for damn sure.
Filming is set to begin in March. GREEN LANTERN currently has a release date of June 17, 2011.
