• Blockbuster Media unleashes official iPhone app

One of the most annoying things that happens to me is I’ll be in a conversation with someone, talking about movies, and one gets brought up that I really want to see. I either have to trust myself to remember the film title, or jot it down on my iPhone and remember to look later. Well, my problem has now been solved thanks to Blockbuster Media and their new iPhone application.

    Home Page

When you land on the homepage, you get a handful of options to play with. At the top, the most popular films that opened the previous week are optioned. You have the choose to select “GET IT” right under the artwork. The choices to get the film are “Search in Nearby Stores” and “Add to Queue.” I’ll talk about that feature in second. Below those films are the selections “New Releases,” “Top 20,” “Blockbuster Premieres,” and “Browse Full Catalog.” All are pretty self explanatory. Below those are the pages “Browse,” “Search,” “Stores,” “Queue,” and “Settings.”

    Search

If you select “Search,” you can browse Blockbuster’s film catalog by the movie, actor, or director. This comes in handy when you don’t know the name of the film, just who starred in it or directed.

    Stores

As mentioned in the Home Page, when you select “Get It” for a film, you have the option to add in your queue or search for it in a store. If searched in a store, your closest Blockbuster locations pop up, along with their address, phone number, distance, and store availability for the film. This is incredibly convenient around the holidays when stores are busy and can’t really take customer calls.

    Queue

The last big features is the “Queue” page. When “Queue” is opened up, you can see what you have currently checked out, what’s in your queue, and what you have saved. I didn’t see how you can swap movies around, but there is a delete option available.

If we rated iPhone apps, I’d give this a solid 8/10. I was sold at being able to add movies instantly into my queue and having a store locator with availability check on hand. Great job Blockbuster!
