We got our first look at THE SMURFS last year, with a leaked poster that looked pretty awful. Since then, I guess the little blue guys have been spending some time at the render farm because they’re looking a lot less like cartoon characters and more like movie characters. In fact, I’d say their realism looks a bit creepy.

The picture comes from UGO and looks like something that would be used for a poster, though we might not see that any time soon since filming hasn’t started and it’s not due until 2011. Meanwhile, as if one Smurf-tastic news post wasn’t enough, SpoilerTV got a hold of a casting call for the film, which you can read after the jump.

Makes you wonder how a wizard named Gargamel fits into a world with high-powered executives.
