Red-Band for Righteous Kill

posted on August 15th, 2008 by Rusty Gordon.

Al Pacino and Robert de Niro are back together on-screen, over thirteen years after they appeared together in Michael Mann’s HEAT. Unlike in Heat, this time they’re on the same side of the law, playing detectives trying to stop a serial killer who is targeting “bad guys” in RIGHTEOUS KILL. A Red-band trailer has been released for the film. Click on the image to check it out!

Edge Of Darkness Grows

posted on August 15th, 2008 by Adam Reed.

Director Martin Campbell’s remake of THE EDGE OF DARKNESS has now added more people to its cast of an already impressive lineup. It has now been confirmed that Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic will now be joining Mel Gibson and Robert De Niro (rumored) for the film. To tell you the truth, I hadn’t even heard of the 1985 mini-series, but I tell you that I will definitely be eagerly awaiting this remake. I have a man-crush on Mel Gibson among many Hollywoodites, despite his not-too-long-ago bad publicity (He was flippin BRAVEHEART!).

THE EDGE OF DARKNESS tells the story of a veteran cop (Gibson) whose daughter (Novakovic) is brutally murdered on his front doorstep. As the cop investigates his daughter’s murder in order to bring the culprits to justice, he begins to realize that his her murder is nothing but a small patch in an entire quilt of corruption. Not much is known about a filming schedule as of yet, but keep an eye out for this film. I think EDGE OF DARKNESS will be an exciting hit!

Punisher to be PG-13

posted on August 15th, 2008 by Wilhem Oliva.

Remember that sweet PUNISHER red band trailer we posted a few weeks back? Well, we might not be getting the movie we were promised. Sources are saying that Lionsgate is considering removing some of the violence and making the movie PG-13. I think we can all agree this would be a grave mistake.

From a financial standpoint, it makes sense. A lower rating would make the movie available to even more violence-crazed teenage boys. But a fanboy point-of-view, the studio would be giving us another lame Punisher movie (remember the 2004 version?). Unfortunately, it’s always about the money.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell team up

posted on August 15th, 2008 by Wilhem Oliva.

My two favorite actors from my two favorite NBC Thursday night comedies are teaming up! Tina Fey and Steve Carell will star in the upcoming feature DATE NIGHT. They will play a married couple whose ordinary dinner date turns out to be anything but ordinary.

The movie will be directed by Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM), with a script by Josh Klausner (SHREK THE THIRD). While those two names may not inspire a lot of confidence, Tina Fey and Steve Carell sure do. Each has proven their comedic chops time and time again, both on television and on film, and I’m excited to see their chemistry in this movie. Production will begin next year and the release date is yet to be announced.

Myers joining Pitt for Inglorious Bastards

posted on August 15th, 2008 by Rusty Gordon.

That’s right, the man that gave us Austin Powers and Wayne Campbell will be appearing alongside Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. Mike Myers has been cast as British General Ed French.

I must say I would’ve never imagined Mike Myers in a Quentin Tarantino movie, but even with his recent misfire THE LOVE GURU, Myers is still a talented and likeable actor, and this casting announcement only adds to my already high level of intrigue in INGLORIOUS BASTARDS.

Myers as a British General; man, I can’t fathom what bizarre but exciting casting rumor or announcement we hear next regarding INGLORIOUS BASTARDS.

Breaking news: Harry Potter pushed to 2009

posted on August 14th, 2008 by Wilhem Oliva.

Yes, the poster still says November 2008, but the official word is now July 17th, 2009! Here is what Warner Brothers had to say,

“Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films–changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

This is huge. What happens to all the money they’ve already spent on advertising? Do they really think a Harry Potter movie won’t do well in November? The series was made for the winter season. Maybe I’m just upset because I’m a Potter-nut, but enough of my ranting, what do you have to say?!
