Out at the Hollywood Show this past weekend, I caught up with actor Clifton Collins Jr. (STAR TREK, SUNSHINE CLEANING, CAPOTE) and had the chance to ask him about his role in the anticipated follow-up to the 1999 cult phenomenon THE BOONDOCK SAINTS.

Clifton, who plays Romeo in BOONDOCK SAINTS II: ALL SAINTS DAY, said that he's really looking forward to the release of the film, as it scored higher with test audiences at Sony than any other film of its caliber as of recent. He added that he thinks it will far supersede the first film in terms of how people are going to receive it. He also went on to tell me that the trailer would be premiering at this year's Comic Con, so if you will be one of the thousands of fanboys or girls to ascend upon San Diego this next weekend, then you definitely have one more thing to look forward to.

The road to a BOONDOCK SAINTS sequel has been a long one, as the film's writer/director Troy Duffy has not made another film since (and had not made one prior). Now, 10 years later, most know of the trouble Duffy had in making the first film, as chronicled by the documentary OVERNIGHT, which shows the director's rise and fall in making a film with half its original proposed budget, a weak theatrical release, as well as making virtually no money out of the film's DVD and VHS distribution due to contract failings. Clifton seems to think that is all in the past as, when I commented on Duffy's long absence from directing, he replied with the opinion that, after BOONDOCK SAINTS II hits, Duffy will definitely be making more films. A lot more. Let us all hope that Mr. Collins is right!
