    TRUE GRIT

The Coen Brothers are currently preparing for their remake of the 1969 western TRUE GRIT. The original film tells the story of a U.S. Marshall and a Texas Ranger who are  trying to find a murderer who has killed the father of their 14 year old companion, and is based on the novel of the same name. John Wayne won an Academy Award for his performance as U.S. Marshall Roger Cogburn.

Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin are  rumored to be attached to the project, but the Coens are still looking for their leading lady. For that reason, they have announced an open casting for the part of the 14 year old girl, named Mattie. This is not the first time they have done such a thing. For this year’s A SERIOUS MAN, they hosted an open casting and that landed Jessica McManus the role of Sarah Gopnick.

The names attached to this film already are quite impressive and leave much to be anticipated, so whoever lands this role will have to be extremely talented. The role is described as simple and tough, which you will have to be to beat out what I am sure will be some very heavy competition.

To audition, you can attend an open call or tape yourself and send it in. Might I also suggest checking out the original, which not only featured an amazing performance by John Wayne, but also a great performance by Kim Darby in the role of Mattie.

The requirements for the role are listed below (click on the image to view in full size). Visit http://www.truegritcasting.com/ for more information.

The  movie will begin shooting in the spring of 2010.
