Could Peter Jackson’s DAMBUSTERS have its writer?
As you all know, talk is just talk, and anyone can say anything (unless of course they are a mute). Just remember that as you read the rest of this story. Alright, with that being said, some news concerning the DAMBUSTERS project has surfaced. In case you are lost on what this project is, DAMBUSTERS is a remake of a classic 1955 war film by the same name, originally directed by Michael Anderson.
The talented and extremely busy Peter Jackson has had this film on the back burner for some time now, making many wonder if it will ever come to fruition. I love me a good war flick, and one brought to me by Jackson would be fantastic. Well, DAMBUSTERS may just be making it to theaters after all, and sooner than many would have thought.
Harry over at Ain't It Cool News recently got an email from one of his readers concerning Jackson's DAMBUSTERS. Here is what his reader, Jaffa, had to say:
"Last night I attended a charity event with Stephen Fry, in which he was interviewed on stage about his life, friends (such as Hugh Laurie – when he Stephen was recently in LA shooting BONES, he was in the lot opposite the HOUSE lot, and they had lunch together for a catch up) and ongoing/future projects. One of the more interesting movie tip-bits that he let slip was that he confirmed that the Peter Jackson DAMBUSTERS remake was in pre-production, with Stephen writing the screen play. He also commented that Peter had already created the Lancaster Bombers in New Zealand ready for shooting to begin. No dates were mentioned."
So according to Jaffa, Stephen Fry, who has appeared in films like V FOR VENDETTA and written a handful of scripts for TV, is already fast at work on the screenplay for DAMBUSTERS. Fry added that DAMBUSTERS is already in pre-production, and Peter Jackson has already created and possibly built the bomber planes for the film.
This is all very incredible news...maybe too incredible. I have my doubts that this letter is completely legit, but if it is, then I wonder where this film is going to fit in Jackson's busy schedule. Already on his plate is THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN, THE HOBBIT and TEMERAIRE. I hope we get some validation on this story soon, but until then, file this news under possibility.
