Craig Brewer wanted for FOOTLOOSE remake?
We recently reported that Kenny Ortega (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR, THIS IS IT) decided to walk away from directing the upcoming FOOTLOOSE remake. And now there is word on who might be one of the people Paramount is considering to replace Ortega.
According to Risky Biz Blog, sources say that Craig Brewer is on Paramount’s short list to be the new director of the FOOTLOOSE remake. There is no word on how Brewer feels about this possibility. However, given his previous films, I just don’t see it. Brewer directed the pimp-with-a-dream movie HUSTLE & FLOW, and BLACK SNAKE MOAN, a film about a man who chains a young woman up in hope of curing her sickness (which is of a sexual nature).
Brewer is currently attached to MOTHER TRUCKER, a SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT-esque trucker movie. MOTHER TRUCKER is more standard fare than his previous films, but is still nothing that makes me think Brewer would want to do a FOOTLOOSE remake.
I can see why Paramount would want Brewer – he is a talented director, and HUSTLE & FLOW and BLACK SNAKE MOAN both had a strong musical influence, but right now there is no reason to think this is any more than wishful thinking.
