CRAZY HEART, the last Fox Searchlight release of 2009
One of the genres that has had a huge impact on GordonandtheWhale.com is the indie genre. There’s nothing more motivating than watching a film that’s been created by people with little to no budget. Even if the film is absolutely terrible, you still have to give it up to its creators for their drive to get it made. Filmmaking isn’t easy.
This brings me to Fox Searchlight’s last release of 2009, CRAZY HEART. Even though the casting for the film is quite impressive, CRAZY HEART will still be considered an indie film because of its budget and limited theatrical release. Fox Searchlight acquired the rights to the film back in July and originally had planned for a 2010 release. Things are finally moving, as this will be released this December 18th (NY/LA), just in time for Oscar voting!
Based on the debut novel by Thomas Cobb, CRAZY HEART follows a drunken, down on his luck country singer named Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges), who gets by with a little help from a young journalist (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall co-star.
Fun Fact: Bridges and Farrell perform two original songs in the film.
