• Damon, Brolin might have TRUE GRIT?

The idea of the Coen brothers remaking TRUE GRIT is just odd to me. The filmmaking duo that have given us so many great original films, including the most recent A SERIOUS MAN, remaking anything right now makes me wonder why? Technically, the film is said to be a re-imagining, but the notion is still strange.

The original TRUE GRIT, released in 1969, followed a Texas Ranger and a U.S. Marshal as they aided a woman by trying to track down her father’s murderer, deep in Indian territory. It had a star-studded cast including John Wayne, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, and Kim Darby.

It looks like the Coens are trying to assemble their own star-studded cast of A-listers for their take on the tale. Matt Damon is currently in talks to play the lawman who teams up with U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn to track down the killer while Josh Brolin is in discussions to play said killer. Jeff Bridges is already attached to play the Cogburn character, a role in which John Wayne won an Oscar for in 1970.

Bridges, Damon, and Brolin would definitely give this TRUE GRIT re-imagining a strong cast. And as surprising as this project is to me, I would love to see those three in it under the direction of the Coens.
