Danny Boyle to direct 127 HOURS
Lately there’s been plenty of speculation about Danny Boyle’s next cinematic project. Everything from the TRAINSPOTTING sequel PORNO, to a MY FAIR LADY remake have been discussed, but I guess those were all false leads because Boyle is going a totally different route.
His next project will be 127 HOURS (which Kate told us about last month), which will tell the amazing story of mountaineer Aron Ralston. The title comes from the horrible ordeal he endured, in which “his right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May, 2003, Ralston used a dull knife to amputate the limb. He then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter.”
Danny Boyle is one of those directors that never seems to repeat himself, which is why I was doubtful about those sequel rumors (though I’m still dying to see Danny Boyle do a musical). 127 HOURS will definitely be unlike anything he’s done in the past.
According the Variety, the movie won’t delve too much into Ralston’s history and instead will focus the majority of its running time on those awful 5 days, not unlike CAST AWAY taking place mostly on the island. Currently, Ryan Gosling is rumored to be in the running to play Aron Ralson. Expect to see the movie in theaters late 2010.
