Darren Aronofsky to helm “Hobgoblin” pilot for HBO
Darren Aronofsky is as interesting a creative name as he is an actual filmmaker.
With takes on Batman, Wolverine, and Robocop falling apart due to various reasons, he’ll next be gearing up his long-discussed take on the story of Noah, entitled NOAH. However, until then, he apparently has some time on his hands.
Variety is reporting that he’ll be directing the pilot for HBO’s new series, Hobgoblin. The series is created by the team of Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, and will follow “a group of con men and magicians who use their skills of deception to help defeat Hitler and the Germans during World War II.” Need I say more?
It goes without saying that this is one of HBO’s most anticipated projects, and has been going around for some time. I’m a huge fan of Aronofsky, particularly with the new, neo-realist style that he’s been growing with since THE WRESTLER, and the idea of seeing that very style tossed into a story like this, is the makings for greatness. HBO has been a go-to outlet for directors looking to work on their craft, so the fact that Aronofsky sees a project like this worthy of his time, definitely makes me all the more intrigued in this show.
