David Duchovny talks X-FILES 3
Ten years ago I never would’ve thought I’d be writing the following sentence: I don’t want another X-FILES movie. I know, it sounds like geek-blasphemy, but can you blame me? After the glorified TV episode that was I WANT TO BELIEVE and the post-Duchovny seasons, I’m satisfied simply knowing that for a short time around 1996 it was the best show on TV and I can revisit those great episodes whenever I want.
A few months ago, actress Gillian Anderson expressed her interest in doing a third movie, which I didn’t take too seriously. Now David Duchovny is jumping on the bandwagon. This is what he had to say:
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
Of course, 2012 is a reference to the conspiracy theory that the world is coming to an end that year. From the quote, it sounds more like Duchovny is talking about what he’d like the next movie to be rather than what it will be. He and Anderson can talk all they want, but in the end it’s up to series creator Chris Carter, who I don’t think has any reason to not do another movie. Though I WANT TO BELIEVE was criticized by many, it still made a good profit and the series still commands a legion of loyal followers. My guess is that we haven’t seen the last of Mulder and Scully.

Actually, not up to Chris Carter, as the franchise belongs to Fox and not to him.
If Chris Carter wants that XFILES 3 will function. it will have to put the same stars of the series and always the conspiracy and more spaceships…
