    The Third Man

That would be the rumor currently circulating at least. CHUD is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire are interested in starring in a remake of the noir film THE THIRD MAN. The original, released in 1949, was directed by Carol Reed and starred Orson Welles as Harry Lime, who offers a job opportunity in Vienna to friend and pulp author Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten). Upon arriving, Martins discovers that Lime has been killed in an accident and a mystery ensues.

The script is currently being written by screenwriter Steven Knight (EASTERN PROMISES). At this point, the film does not yet have a director attached. It is also unknown who would play who. DiCaprio and Maguire could both play the roles of Lime and Martins, although I think DiCaprio is the stronger presence out of the two. Thus the role of Lime seems better suited for him.

As a side note, this will mark the first time the two actors will have worked together since 1993’s THIS BOY’S LIFE, despite being friends since boyhood.
