It's been a while since we've heard anything about DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, the comedy starring Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd. The director behind it (Jay Roach) is the guy who helmed the AUSTIN POWERS series and the MEET THE PARENTS films. Now, Paramount has dropped a trailer for the film. Check it out, after the jump.

Well, that's a comedy all right. It looks like the biggest things this film has going for it is the star-studded cast. Not only do you have Paul Rudd, who found mainstream appeal after his 2009 film I LOVE YOU, MAN but it also has a veteran of The Office, Steve Carell. The highlight of the supporting cast will undoubtedly be Zach Galifianakis whipping out another one of his characters who appears to be some sort of wannabe hypnotist.

Rudd and Carell appear to have a decent amount of chemistry on screen, which is actually quite surprising. Steve Carell has a screen presence that usually draws all attention to himself. He tends to create a character and stick to it with admirable consistency. Rudd is the same way, though his presence is derived from his charm and his adorable eyebrow raises.

Could this be funny? Absolutely. Will it be this year's THE HANGOVER? I highly doubt it. Jay Roach's credentials don't convince me all that much, as I found AUSTIN POWERS to be more annoying that hilarious. However, I found something to enjoy in the first MEET THE PARENTS. In all honesty, the film will probably solicit a few laughs, have people smiling as they leave the theater, and quietly leave people's minds by they get back in their cars.

I'm open to being wrong though, and I hope to see a better trailer for this film before its July 23rd release date.
