DVD Review: THE UNBORN
Director: David S. Goyer
Writer: David S. Goyer
Cast: Odette Yustman, Gary Oldman, Cam Gigandet
Studio: Universal
THE UNBORN is an unimpressive, shockingly boring horror movie – a film that was quickly forgotten when it was released earlier this year. Now, THE UNBORN has come to DVD, offering only a few previously unseen moments from the film’s original print. Unfortunately, this new footage is as consistently unscary as everything found in the theatrical cut.
The DVD includes the theatrical and unrated versions of THE UNBORN, as well as a few deleted scenes. The difference between the cuts is literally one minute. There is very little added, despite what the DVD cover would have you think, and what is new is barely noticeable and offers nothing redeemable to THE UNBORN.
The deleted scenes are lame, mostly consisting of bland moments where the film isn’t even trying to scare you. We see a conversation between the main character and her boyfriend that doesn’t even seem like out it is out of horror film – the guy acts concerned and the girl seems stressed. After the conversation our protagonist heads up to bed and goes for a jog in the morning. That is it, as the scene just shows us some of the most uninteresting parts of the lead’s day. The other deleted scenes aren’t any better, as it is clear that those behind the DVD were merely trying to find unseen footage they could use for the DVD release.
THE UNBORN is a bad movie that is an equally pathetic DVD, offering no behind-the-scenes information or commentary, only weak extra footage of the film.
