Facebook to host online game contest for DC Universe Online
Here’s a bit of cool news for our animation and comic book lovers out there. Mass Animation is launching a DC Universe Online Animation Contest on Facebook that gives fans a chance to make their own DC animated short film.
Mass Animation will use animation made by fans to produce a trailer for Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming DC Universe Online game. DC Universe Online is a multiplayer online game that will be released in 2010. Some of the characters featured will be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Circe.
Fans can use digital models originally created by Sony Online Entertainment and animate them with a special version of Autodesk’s Maya 3D software. These digital models are available from the Facebook page. After animating their footage, fans then upload it to the Facebook page, where people can vote on their favorites. Those getting the most votes go into the 90-second trailer. There will also be an iPhone app that lets people view and vote from their phones.
The contest will run from December 7 through early February.
