The John Steinbeck travelogue will get its own documentary

John Steinbeck is perhaps best known as the author of literary classics like The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. However, he also penned several nonfiction books, including a travelogue called The Log From the Sea of Cortez, which accounted for his six-week voyage alongside marine biologist Ed Ricketts in 1940.

Variety reports that the film rights for the travelogue have been purchased by Robert Kanter, producer of the award-winning doc VOICES OF THE CHILDREN. He’s currently aiming to get a famous actor on board for narration duties. There’s no projected release date just yet, but Kanter wants to get the documentary rolling sometime next year.

This could definitely shape up to be a terrific doc, and with the right narrator on board, it might be able to gain a decent audience. What are your thoughts on Steinbeck’s travelogue getting its very own documentary?
