Even the most meticulous of film festival schedules assembled by yours truly fall apart from time to time. Which is what happened at this year's SXSW when a terrible combination of oversleeping, a rainstorm, and a sold-out showing completely derailed a day's schedule for me. That's the day you would have found me milling around the press lounge asking for suggestions for possible viewing options available in the screener library. That's the day James Rocchi told me to get my butt over to the library, ready to knock down anyone who got in my way when it came to obtaining a DOGTOOTH screener. As usual, Rocchi was right.

My review for the film (check it out HERE) pointedly states that this is a film you cannot ignore. It's also a film I simply cannot forget. It captivated even my Benadryl-saturated brain on a small screen in a dark meeting room in a random Austin hotel. After the break, check out the first U.S. trailer for DOGTOOTH, along with the official synopsis and release information.

"A hyper-stylized mixture of physical violence and verbal comedy, DOGTOOTH is a darkly funny look at three teenagers confined to their parents' isolated country estate and kept under strict rule and regimen - an inscrutable scenario that suggests a warped experiment in social conditioning and control.

Terrorized into submission by their father, the children spend their days devising their own games and learning an invented vocabulary (a salt shaker is a 'telephone,' an armchair is 'the sea') - until a trusted outsider, brought in to satisfy the son's libidinal urges, plants the seeds of rebellion by trading VHS tapes for sexual favors."

DOGTOOTH will open in New York City on June 25. Pray for expansion.
