Fox to release interactive viewing application
If necessity is the mother of invention, than relevance is the father of innovation. For people like myself, it is not unusual to use various types of media at once. As I type this, I have a few social networking sites minimized, am listening to music, and carrying on conversations via instant messenger and text message. Fox is trying to capitalize on this technology dependence while remaining competitive against the likes of iTunes, Netflix, and Redbox, in the home entertainment market with the use of social networking.
The new feature is called FoxPop and it will make its first appearance on December 1 with the Blu-ray and DVD release of NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN. FoxPop offers DVD owners a way to get facts, photos, games, and trivia questions related to the movie they are watching. It’s much like some special features found on DVDs, but these features are available for Mac, PC, or iPhone – allowing the info to be viewed on a separate screen.
According to Spot411, an interactive entertainment company, 80 percent of people who watch movies do research about the movie later or immediately. So this application will provide information as well as allow users to share it on Facebook or Twitter.
The FoxPop application is free and will be downloadable. FoxPop will also be available for the release of (500) DAYS OF SUMMER scheduled for December 22 and JENNIFER’S BODY on December 29.
