Gerard Butler joins CORIOLANUS
Gerard Butler will be doing the Shakespeare thing for, and with, Ralph Fiennes. Butler has just signed to play a major role in Ralph Fiennes' contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's play CORIOLANUS, which is about the Roman leader Gaius Martius Coriolanus. Fiennes is directing the film (his debut) and will also star in the project.
Butler will be playing the commander of the Volscian army, Tullus Aufidius. Many probably know Butler best as the take-no-shit Spartan, King Leonidas, in 300. Butler is currently starring alongside Jamie Foxx in the disappointing LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. The film is lame, but at least his performance is not.
According to THR, who broke the story, Butler is set to be the bait for potential buyers that could buy the rights for CORIOLANUS at AFM (American Film Market). That is some seriously manly bait, and one that also has a pretty well-known name. Smart move!
Shooting for CORIOLANUS is set to begin in March.
