GOSSIP GIRL actor to star in FOOTLOOSE remake
After a long time absence from film, spin-dancing while punching the air to saxophone solos in warehouses will return to the silver screen. But who is set to move his loose feet and pump the fist? It’s none other than GOSSIP GIRL’s own Chace Crawford, who has just been announced as the man to take over the role of Ren McCormack, made famous by Kevin Bacon in 1984’s FOOTLOOSE.
But Crawford was not the first choice for the role. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star and no stranger to random but frequent dance numbers Zac Efron was previously cast in the role; however, Efron dropped out in March, citing that he was “looking for a new challenge” and FOOTLOOSE “was another musical.” Efron can next be seen as a meth addict that works out his addiction through random but frequent dance numbers.
The remake of FOOTLOOSE is to be directed by Kenny Ortega, previously known for his work on the 2nd and 3rd HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL films. More importantly, Ortega directed 1993’s HOCUS POCUS and 1992’s NEWSIES!
