Graph shows the evolution of superhero movies
I love graphs like these because they help put certain movies in perspective. In this case, comic book movies and how they’ve been doing at the box office over the past few decades.
It comes to us courtesy of the Kold Cast blog (via First Showing) and it looks back to 1978, with the arrival of SUPERMAN, all the way until today. The main conclusion I take away from the graph? This is a big business that keeps on getting bigger.
The graph also reveals some details that were surprising to me. For example, I had no idea that the PUNISHER movies had been such a financial disaster. The top three spots of the “5 Biggest Bombs in Superhero Movie History” section are occupied by that franchise. I also hadn’t realized that Marvel superhero movies had grossed more than DC movies.

I think my favorite part of this is Michael Caine's comment about Heath Ledger.
I think my favorite part of this is Michael Caine's comment about Heath Ledger.
I think that may have been my personal bias coming into play. Cobra has been one of my favorites for a long time and even though I recognize how important the original Rocky is to the whole series, I found the movie itself to be a tad slow and boring. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good movie mind you just a personal preference BTW, Stallone only got paid 30K to do Cop Land.
