• GREEN LANTERN snags Tim Robbins

A couple months ago I was shocked to discover that a friend of mine had never seen or heard of THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. As I began to explain what the movie was about, I mentioned that Tim Robbins was in it, to which she replied, “who is Tim Robbins?”

The question seemed strange to me because I always considered him a well known actor, but a look at his IMDb page might shed some light on my friend’s response. Though he had a slew of hits in the 90s, he hasn’t had a staring roll in a major Hollywood blockbuster in quite some time. Now, Robbins has been cast in GREEN LANTERN, hopefully putting an end to his obscurity.

His roll isn’t big, but at least next time some kid asks me who he is, I can say he’s the guy from GREEN LANTERN. In the film, he’ll play Senator Hammond, the father of the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard). From what I’ve been able to find online, it doesn’t look like the character existed in the comics (correct me if I’m wrong), so it’s hard to tell if the seemingly small part will be expanded later on in the franchise.
