Greenpeace movie in the works
With the entire world (including the entertainment industry) being obsessed with being green, it was only a matter of time before they made a movie about it. More specifically, the movie will deal with the Greenpeace organization, which was formed during the 70s and continues to fight environmental issues to this day.
According to Variety, the movie will focus on Bob Hunter and Rex Weyler, the founding members who “led an eccentric group of pacifists, ecologists, musicians, teachers, sailors, and scientists as they attempted — often successfully — to disrupt American and French nuclear bomb tests, Japanese and Russian whaling ships and Norwegian infant harp seal hunters.”
The movie will be directed by Jon Turteltaub, who is currently best known for helming the NATIONAL TREASURE movies, but he’s not who I’m interested in. What’s really cool is that the producers seem to be interested in Aaron Sorkin to write the film. They’ve had talks with him, but nothing has been put to paper yet.
Sorkin is currently working THE SOCIAL NETWORK, which he wrote the script for. That movie is also about the origins of an organization and it’s interesting that he might want to do another biopic. THE SOCIAL NETWORK script is already getting early buzz and if he can for the Greenpeace movie then we should have a good one.
