    Adam Shankman 3

Adam Shankman has directed several films, including THE WEDDING PLANNER, A WALK TO REMEMBER, and CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2. Shankman’s 2007 cinematic adaptation of the Broadway musical “Hairspray,” was not only his best critically received film (with a current score of 91 % fresh at Rotten Tomatoes), but it also did very well at the box office (making $118 million domestically).

Given how well directing HAIRSPRAY worked out for Shankman, it’s not surprising that he has just agreed to turn another Broadway hit into a feature film. This time, the director will be tackling “Rock of Ages.”

“Rock of Ages” deals with various characters connected to rock n’ roll, set to the music of popular 80s bands including Journey, Twisted Sister, and Poison.

According to Shankman, we should expect big things from the project.  Shankman says, “I’m thinking big, and absolutely am going to attempt to cast with movie stars. Now that musicals are working again, actors are much more open to it.” It will be interesting to see if Shankman comes anywhere close to making his ROCK OF AGES as spectacular as he wants.
