There was no doubt HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE would dominate the box office this weekend. The only question was “how much?” and the answer to that is “$159,662,000.”

That’s right, folks, HP 6 pulled in $159,662,000 since its Wednesday opening last week – even breaking THE DARK KNIGHT’s Wednesday night opening record by $4 million. It just goes to show that Harry Potter fans haven’t dwindled- only multiplied since the first Potter film, THE SORCERER’S STONE, opened in 2001.

ICE AGE 3, TRANSFORMERS 2, BRUNO, and THE HANGOVER are still holding up in the top 5, respectively. ICE AGE has dominated its $90 million budget by $60 million; TRANSFORMERS 2 has crushed its $200 million budget by $163 million; and the bigger winner, THE HANGOVER, has far, far surpassed its $35 million budget by $200,882,000. I’m willing to bet Todd Phillips is using hundred dollar bills to light his hydroponically-grown marijuana right now.

Also opening this past weekend was the GATW-loved (500) DAYS OF SUMMER. Making about $31,000 per theater, it pulled in around $838,000. Congrats to Joseph, Marc, Scott, Michael, and Zooey on a well-made film.
