Hanks and Spielberg return to THE PACIFIC
UPDATE: YOU CAN NOW SEE THE TRAILER AFTER THE JUMP!
While a few movie fans might be on a Spielberg diet after a few disappointments, there is reason to be excited about his upcoming HBO television series, THE PACIFIC, which he is co-producing with Tom Hanks. Their last HBO collaboration resulted in 2001’s award-winning BAND OF BROTHERS, the story of WWII soldiers in Europe. THE PACIFIC will follow in the steps of BAND OF BROTHERS, only this time it will focus on soldiers’ experiences battling the Japanese, and from the brand-new trailer, it looks like HBO is cranking up the production values to 11!
The series is expected to have a budget of around $200 million, the most of any TV production ever. Combine that with the wonderful scenery of Australia, where most of it is being filmed, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a miniseries! Let’s face it, Spielberg has done some of his best work as a TV producer (ANIMANIACS and FREAKAZOID are proof of that) so I can’t wait to see how THE PACIFIC turns out. Look for it on HBO next March. That sounds like a long time to wait, but at least we have a brand new trailer to occupy our time. Watch it here before it gets taken down by “the man!”
