This weekend, Tyler Perry once again proved that you simply don't bet against him or his films. I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF packed a punch, pulling in over $24 million in its first weekend. As a Perry-sion (that's a Tyler Perry comparison), this is his second biggest opening - his previous flick, MADEA GOES TO JAIL, holds the top spot, having made over $41 million in its opening weekend. If you want an idea of just how much money I CAN DO BAD should make, the Perry-ison shows that the average box office take per Perry film is over $49 million. With the added draw of starring one of last year's breakout actresses, Taraji P. Henson (DOUBT), I suspect I CAN DO BAD will meet that average easily.

The week's other new releases did not fare nearly so well. Shane Acker's 9 may have come in second place, but it made $13 million less than the number one, clocking in with a take of $10,856,000. Screamfest SORORITY ROW didn't even crack the top five, stabbing its way only to number six with $5.2 million. Kate Beckinsale-starrer WHITEOUT was number seven, making a dismal $5.1 million, perfect to accompany its dismal reviews.

The rest of the top ten is an interesting hodgepodge - INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS stayed strong at number three ($6.5 million), ALL ABOUT STEVE proved that not all of the moviegoing public listens to critics by coming in at fourth place ($5.8 million), THE FINAL DESTINATION dropped from two weeks at number one to the fifth spot ($5.5 million), DISTRICT 9 held tight with the eighth spot ($3.6 million), JULIE & JULIA savored a sixth week in the top ten with number nine ($3.3 million), and GAMER dropped from fourth place to tenth ($3.15 million).
