Ian McKellen says not many of the LOTR cast will return for THE HOBBIT
Ian McKellen, who portrayed Gandalf the wizard in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, gave up some interesting information regarding the planned prequel THE HOBBIT. According to McKellen, not many, if any, actors from the original trilogy will reprise their roles for THE HOBBIT. That is “unless they’re going to put masks on and be disguised as dwarves!” which McKellen playfully exclaimed. He went on to say that “Andy Serkis is, at the moment, I think, the only other actor who’s doing this film.” Only other actor meaning McKellen himself, who has previously confirmed he would be returning to his role as Gandalf the Grey. Andy Serkis would reprise his role as Gollum.
McKellen also revealed that the scripts for the film, which will be split into two parts, are to be delivered soon, with budgeting being the next step and then on to casting. He added that the first film would likely begin shooting on schedule, sometime in March or April of next year. McKellen also made note that director Guillermo Del Toro told him at one point that the back-to-back films would take over a year to shoot. 383 days to be exact.
