International trailer for TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY hits
One could argue the pros and cons of making films in different genres, but one that’s very difficult to successfully pull off is a thriller. You have to keep the audience guessing, but you can’t be too confusing. You have to provide clues, but you can’t give it away. You have to be thrilling, but you can’t go over the top.
The international trailer for Tomas Alfredson’s TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY, a film that looks like a perfect thriller, has arrived; you can check it out after the break.
What we see in this trailer is very tedious, but oddly very thrilling at the same time. The malevolent score builds simply as we see brief glimpses of individuals, lending itself to the intrigue and danger of the story. It also looks like we might be seeing some great performances, including one from Gary Oldman; many believe that he might finally find himself in the Oscar hunt this year.
Based on the John le Carré novel, TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY finds the semi-retired George Smiley (Gary Oldman) returning to his job to find the identity of a mole during the Cold War; Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Ciarán Hinds, Mark Strong, and last year’s Best Actor winner Colin Firth also have roles in the film.
The film hits theaters in the States on November 18.
