• Is GHOSTBUSTERS 3 just a bunch of talk?

Ugh, I hate bad news, and although I am not too sure that this is completely bad news, it is definitely not good. Talks of adding a third film to the GHOSTBUSTERS franchise began some time ago now. Since then, momentum on the project has begun to build. The core of the original cast, including of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement.

Just a handful of days ago Kate brought us the good word that Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two installments of GHOSTBUSTERS, is going to be back to direct the third. So, it’s been one good news snippet after another for a while. That is, until now; according to one of GHOSTBUSTERS’ biggest stars, Bill Murray, the film, up to this point, is still “just a bunch of talk.”

What!? Still just talk. Tell me it ain’t so, Mr. funny-man Murray!

“Well, I don’t want to do it yet. There’s still no script, it’s just a bunch of talk… It’s just a wishlist for someone. Until there is a really good script, I’ll stay home. It has to be a serious script before I leave the house.”

What in the world have “The Office” scribes, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, been doing all this time? Those guys obviously know how to write, so why is there still no script? Why tease me and every other GHOSTBUSTERS fan?

I do hope this is just Bill Murray’s attempt at raising a little commotion and buzz around the upcoming film (like it needs any). Maybe he’s just trying to cover his butt in case this project falls through for some supernatural reason. Regardless of intention, I don’t like it. Therefore, I am going to stick my fingers in my ears, hum the GHOSTBUSTERS theme song, and pretend like I didn’t hear it.

Oh I totally agree. I knew that all of these guys, well most, wouldn't jump on board with this project unless it had an epic script that honored the originals. Everyone was confirmed to be onboard, so I assumed, which I guess I shouldn't have, that the writers of THE OFFICE had created a masterpiece. I guess not. I hope they can wield a great script, because I personally would love to see all those guys back together, but like you, I definitely DO NOT want a sequel if it is going to be nothing but an abuse of the classic brand, all in attempt to make a couple of bucks.

      Are you kidding???

The fatc that Murray says he won't do it unless it's a great script is WONDERFUL news. He's the only one demonstrating any integrity here.

The last thing a truly brilliant movie like Ghostbusters needs is some crappy third installment. Unless you're adding a masterpiece to the series, why bother? The first movie is so good it blows my mind every time I sit down to watch it. Honour that legacy or stay home.
