UPDATE: As mentioned, Ben Affleck's involvement with GREAT GATSBY was a rumor, and now it's not happening.  Deadline is reporting that he will not be involved with the film, due to scheduling conflicts.  He will be helming, and starring in, a film entitled ARGO, confirming rumors of his connection to that project originally revealed in early February.

Talk about a change of pace.

While most people may know her as the star of such films as WEDDING CRASHERS and CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, actress Isla Fisher is looking to step out of her comfort zone for none other than director Baz Luhrmann.

THR is reporting that Fisher is in talks to join the cast of Luhrmann’s upcoming film, THE GREAT GATSBY, his long talked about adaptation of the iconic F. Scott Fitzgerald masterpiece. The film will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan, and will see Fisher take on the role of Myrtle Wilson, who ultimately has an affair with one Tom Buchanan, who still has yet to be cast (although rumors have had Ben Affleck in the role, nothing certain has been announced).

GATSBY is set to shoot later this year, and it is definitely an interesting step up in projects for an actress who for most of her career, really other than the underrated flick THE LOOKOUT, has been relegated to midling romantic comedies. Obviously, this is one of the most anticipated projects set to start production, and honestly, with a cast this good, no director could really make a mess of this. I’m a huge fan of Luhrmann as a filmmaker, so hopefully this thing can live up to the hype.

I must object, beloved Josh. I know one way Lurhmann could make a mess of this – MAKE IT INEXPLICABLY IN 3D.

Hahaha, I agree with that. I still don’t think that that will even happen, so my hopes are still very much sky high.
