Only a mere three weeks after the death of the King of Pop, Sony Pictures is closing in on a deal that would acquire 80 hours of rehearsal footage from Jackson's London tour preparation. It is said that studio is most likely going to end up paying $50 million for the worldwide rights to the footage.

The pseudo-documentary will focus on at least three videos, including an alternate version of "Thriller," which was to be integrated into Jackson's performance. The footage was ultimately going to play in 3-D, but it is unknown at this point if that technology will still be used in this final product.

Director Kenny Ortega (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, the upcoming FOOTLOOSE remake), who shot the footage, is now working on the feature and has already begun to cut it together so as the feature can be released by its end of the year target date.

In other news, Variety reports that there is a tribute concert in the works taking place in London on Jackson's birthday (August 29th) featuring Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, and more performing Jackson's intended set list.

What do you guys think? Too soon and reeks of the vibe of capitalizing on MJ's death? Or an appropriate tribute thrown together in a timely fashion to honor the fallen king? I know one thing is for sure..."Thriller" + 3-D = THRILLED!

I think it is way too soon, but I would have to agree with you on the "thriller" idea. I wouldn't mind seeing that in 3-D.

Again agree that this is definitely too soon, but definitely has peaked my interest.
